Plutocracy > Democracy

The concept of a President elected to do the will of the people and enforce the Constitution of that people is a thing of the past.  The confirmation of pro-unchecked-presidential-power Alito will further the transformation of the American Government from democracy to….well, an even more blatant and evil version of what it already is today.

Found this beautiful Hunter S Thompson paper on proto-scumbag Nixon, who set a new precedent for the amoral president.  Enjoy the relevance.

  1. But they’re not crooks, just ask ‘em! Look at all the Dems who have been charged with….

    Oh, wait.

Well, there’s the indictments of those Democrat senator….

    No, that’s not it.

Shit, I guess they are crooks. Too bad the American populace is seemingly too stupid to recognize it and do something about it. As long as they’ve got their fear and hate, they don’t give a shit about anything else.

  2. I love the mental image ‘The Liberal Avenger’ brings up. We’re getting quite a list of liberal superheroes. Perhaps the Liberal Avenger could team up with ‘The Left’ as seen in his first episode at http://norbizness.com/archives/000717.html

It pays to read all about The Left and his wacky adventures.

Now, Nixon is just history to me. Even after readin about all his crazy ass schemes and plots, the evil plans and actions… it just history. There’s nothing visceral about it since I never lived through it (Or at least, was old enough to know that I was living through it). It was a fully written story and I knew that it had a happy ending. This was *almost* the case with Reagan. But in the 80’s I was just getting old enough to know that Reagan was a steaming pile of sour owl shit too. I first read that HST essay on the occasion of Reagan’s death at:

It’s a great essay. We need a new one, though. Where’s today’s HST? The only one I can think that holds a candle to him is The Rude Pundit .

WTF? This is just too naive too event comment. Aristole thought democracy was a good idea because civilized morons (like us) are easier control than rampaging huns. The founding fathers just wanted more than anything to just not pay taxes. Pete Coors got lambasted for saying that a self-interest was a perfectly fine motivation to run for office, but you know what, it’s old than hooking.

What President was there for the will of the people?

  5. I wish I was drunk.

Anyway, I’d prefer to see this argument as pricipled, rather than naive. The only real difference is the amount of cynicism you bring to the table.

The founders were men of the enlightenment… to say that they rebelled simply over taxes is over simplification to the point of dishonesty. If that was the case, they’d have written a lipstick-libertarian’s wet dream instead of the Constitution.

And as for Aristotle… this is the same guy who gave us the brilliant ‘heavy objects like TOTALLY fall faster than lighter ones’ theory. He had all sorts of retarded ideas.

Lastly, I don’t know dick about Pete Coors, but bully for the people of colorado if they rejected him after he said something that I’d expect to hear if Tom Delay, Duke Cunnigham, Stevens or any one of a a dozen outright criminals, might say when they go to trial while forced to wear a truth-telling helmet(tm). He seriously said that? Teddy Roosevelt would’ve made him eat his own nuts if he were still alive… and don’t think to count out zombie Roosevelt, cause he’s even meaner: http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/prem/200601/theodore-roosevelt

  6. Ah, crap. That link is behind a paywall. Anyway, it goes on to say that smart dudes like us gotta stop jerkin each other off and actually do something to serve our country. One of the ways to do that would be serving your country honorably in politics. He conspicuosly left out the part about self-interest.

Well… smart dudes like you anyway. me fail out of college? that’s unpossible!
